The most conventional way of obtaining a work visa is to go through the Korean Consulate. You will need
to prepare a list of documents for them--stated in the section titled "Work Visa
Requirements". (This begins after you receive acceptance from an institute.) This process usually takes
4-6 weeks. The second way is to courier your original notarized degree (notarized by the Korean Consulate or Embassy), original transcript, copy of your resume, and two passport pictures to the hiring institute. This is done only after the institute makes this request. With these documents, the institute will then have the work visa processed by the Ministry of Justice (in Korea). Once this process is completed, a "Visa Issuance Letter" will be couriered by the Ministry of Justice to the teacher, where the teacher can then either personally bring in his/her passport to the closest Korean Consulate / Embassy (in your country) to have his/her visa issuance stamped, or have it couriered there. Your passport will have a full 12 months teaching visa stamped, which will include a one week grace period before the issuance is activated. Obtaining a work visa through this process usually takes 2-3 weeks. Finally, the third, and fastest way of obtaining a work visa is to fly to Korea as a tourist, with your original/notarized degree, transcript, and resume. A few days after your arrival, you will be asked to go to Japan (the closest neighboring democratic country; the return flight and accommodations are provided by the institute). Although this process is the quickest, it is least preferred by institutes, considering the greater costs involved. However, this method is used in cases where the institute urgently needs teachers. This process usually take 1-3 days. For further information you can contact: jnjconnect@hotmail.com Phone: 416-414-7782 in Canada Fax: N/A in Canada |
