Elements of the Genre

In role-playing games, the player takes control of a character usually with their own persona and agenda. The character that a user plays usually has their own species, race, gender, appearance as well as occupation. Role-playing game characters generally have attributes and abilities such as strength, health and stamina that are numerically represented in the game. The role-playing genre typically feature multiple quest lines, deadly foes and an inventory system to hold items found throughout the game such as weapons and quest items.

Popular role playing games include The Elder Scrolls by Bethesda Softworks, Dragon Age , The Witcher series by Polish studio Projekt Red and World of Warcraft which classifies as a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game(MMORPG).
