Applications for
positions in 2007 are now being accepted.
Counselor/Riding Instructor:
It is important that our counselors
not only want to teach riding but like children and have had experience
spending many hours with them in different settings.
A perky nature and patience is very
important. Minimum age for counselors is 18 by June 1. Our camps run from
July 1 to Sept. 1 - we like to have the staff here about a week before
the first camp for training and pre-camp preparation making this a 10
week position starting June 24, 2007.
You must be able to ride at a minimum
of a Level 1 Rider in either English or Western. Having a riding
certificate is not neccessary as we issue riding level certificates to
our staff at the end of the summer. Previous teaching experience is not
required since we will instruct you on our teaching methods during
Training Week. First Aid and CPR are an asset. Also lifeguarding, archery
or canoeing skills would be wonderful, but not manditory.

Assistant Counselor:
This position is very similar to the
Instructor position described above as far as duties and daily schedule.
They must be at least 16 years old by June 1 and have riding skills of
Level 1. Assistants are learning to be Counselors and therefore work
closely with an instructor as a team. This is also a 10 week position.

Stable Hands:
Stable hands help look after the
horses, tack and grounds. We hope they will enjoy it at Quiet Place and learn enough to be counselors in a few
years. They must be at least 15 years old by June 1 and be able to walk,
trot and canter comfortably.
Stable hands stay at our camp for all
9 weeks plus attend our training week before camp. They will handle the
overflow of work, like exercise and care for the horses that are not
being used some weeks, minor first aid on horses, or groom and tack up
the counselors horses while they are teaching the campers how to do this.
And of course the mucking out never seems to be complete! They also go on
trail rides as the backup person - these are in the afternoon when people
book rides or in the evenings when the campers go out. You may help the
cook get some of the meals ready, or join in with crafts or hikes -
basicly to help out as needed.
Stable hands receive room & board
(meaning bunk and food), riding and lessons while riding with instructors,
and a small salary. There is also free use of peddle boats, canoes and
row boats. CHA Rider Levels will be awarded at the end of your
employment.

Cook:
Our cook prepares basic, nutritious
meals for 45 to 50 people. The campers have always loved the food served
at Quiet Place Camp and we want to make sure they continue to do so.
Experience preparing food in a timely fashion, for large numbers is a
must for appliants of this 10 week position.

If you
are interested in applying for any of these positions, please email or
fax your resume to us. Please state which position your application is
concerning and include age, address, outline past jobs and volunteer work
and detail all horse related experience (where necessary). A complete job
description will be emailed to you at that time.
Where
are we? We are in beautiful Renfrew County in Eastern
Ontario. Two hours
west of Ottawa or 3 hours north-east of Toronto.
