Wiccan LifestyleIt's time to consider what a Wiccan lifestyle really is I hope this helps. Wiccans live according to the Wiccan rede, "An ye harm none, do as ye will.". That means: 1) A lifestyle free of harm Meeting those two aspects of the belief presents the biggest challenge in itself and usually demands a change in lifestyle. Some lifestyle changes might include a change in diet, usually to vegetarianism or veganisim, volunteer time, or changing to a more ethical job. Even when such compromises or changes are not made, the Wiccan becomes much more aware of the effects of his or her actions. After mastering the ethics of the rede, the biological considerations start. A person can only celebrate so many Esbats and Sabbats before the biology becomes attuned to nature. The awareness of seasonal cycles brings physiological responses. The alteration in these biorhythms eventually becomes predictable so that a Wiccan can plan projects, holidays etc around these seasonal cycles. For example, a rule for spell work says that it is best to start a new project right after the new moon, to help bring things to fruition at full moon and wrap things up or end them at waning moon. Even wiccans who don't practice magick eventually start doing this, sometimes consciously and some times subconsciously. I can't count the number of times I've started hunting for a new job at the time of the new moon and have been offered one by the time the full moon come around, giving me plenty of time to turn in my two weeks notice as the moon wanes, and I did not do this intentionally, it was simply the pattern my life formed. A greater need to heal the inner self and others will also develop, it largely coincides with path work standard to the wiccan religion. Wicca is an initatiatory mysterious religion. Part of initiation demands that something must die. What makes Wicca sometimes benign is that the death that is sought after is of the death of the inner self some of negative traits that disables spiritual development This death is replaced with a new life; a life of greater health and happiness. But that happiness and health is in the hands of the practitioner. He or she can choose not to pursue it. This choice affects the lifestyle by a change in worldview. Sometimes polite formalities go. Sometimes confrontations, never previously expected can take place. Sometimes apologies are made and some are not A Wiccan lifestyle demands a constant path to better health and to a deeper connection inside your self. Every person, of any faith, is affected by another's actions. Someone living the Wiccan path will always take this into consideration whatever he/she chooses to do with his/her life. ~copyright Diana Rajchel 1998
