Question of the Week

Have you ever had an encounter with a spirit? If so, what was that encounter like? Was it uncomfortable? Bad? Good? Would you try to have it again?

Response:Many times Xanth. They are just like incarnate people, some bad, some good, some both. I'm as wary of them or open to them depending on the gut feeling I'm getting when dealing with them. Like the site. One more fun place to go.

Response:I have had both good and bad experiences with spirits. The first, was bad. We lived in a farmhouse out in the middle of nowhere (I will try to make this as 'compact' a story as possible). Whenever one entered the house, you would feel a heaviness and felt as if the house were 'crowded'. Growing up there, I (along with my brother and sister) always felt like someone was watching me. It was the worst if I was alone in a room, or home sick from school. Home sick, I would sit in my sick bed (in front of the tv) and I would start to notice 'dense air'(?) near me and getting closer. This air would park itself right next to the side of my face, and remain there for what seemed like forever. I was frozen with fear. This spirit would appear as a cloud (looked like steam) in mine and my sister's bedroom. I would lay there again frozen until I passed out from exhaustion (I'm surprised I slept at all). This spirit would also say my name over my shoulder once in a while. I would spin around and no one was there. I envisioned this spirit as 'The Dark Man'. He was wearing a long coat and hat and you could almost see his face. He was very negative and wanted to hurt us (I thought and still think this). I dreamed once that the spirit was a little dark haired girl, who ran around the corner everytime I tried to talk to her. I kept asking her what she wanted with me. She never answered. We lived there from the time I was in third grade to my sophomore year in high school. I will never go back to that house and I can't imagine how the people who live there now keep living there. Yikes! On a much more positive note, my deceased Grandparents visit me here alot. When they were alive, they were my whole world. I love them and miss them everyday. Shortly after my Grandpa died, I saw a figure standing next to my bed. This figure was dark and from the outline, looked as if he had his hands in his pockets (my Grandpa always stood this way :). Well, with this still freaked me out. It happened three times (thanks to the 'Dark Man', I am now a huge chicken when it comes to things 'out of the ordinary'). I finally sat up one night and said to my Grandpa that I love him dearly, but his visits are really freaking me out. He has never stood next to the bed again, but visits in other ways. My Grandma died a year later. I was crushed. She would visit me every day as a beautiful scent in my bedroom. The scent was vanilla ice cream and clean laundry (the wonderful and unique smell of my Grandparent's house). She (and probably Grandpa too) would greet me every morning and most times, see me to bed at night. This went on for a year. I wouldn't have made it without this help from them. They sustained me in life, and continue to love me in death. In fact, them passing is what started me on my spiritual journey. I was hoping to find a way to keep them near me always, like they had never gone. I know now that they needed to go on to wherever it is they were going. They are fine and together always. I'm just thankful that they stayed near me while I grieved, and I am thankful that they journeyed on. They still drop in to check on me, especially if I'm really stressed, or upset. I write my Grandma letters (we used to write to each other every week), and I still talk to the air because I know they can hear me. Just when I think I'm about to break, I walk into the bedroom, and there is the smell of vanilla ice cream and clean laundry. I know I'm not alone, I won't break, and everything is going to be allright.

Response:There have been a few things I've encounted that could be said to be spirits. Only one really scarey one. Xanth, you may have heard of "ghost road" Port Perry Ontario. There are a few legends surrounding the place but essentially you sit on this road at night and there's this bright light that shows up several times a night. Now I've bin there a few times and really didn't think much of the light itself. I don't "feel" anything negative from it. There is something, however spooky about a section of the road where you sit to watch were I will not stop. So anyway. Long story long!! LOL One day a friend and I think. Lets go early (daylight) and go out into the field beside the wooded area where the light manifests itself. Well we got there later than I would have liked. Dusk. But we go out into the field, we take flash lights just incase it gets dark fast. I'm walking along at a good pace. Not scared. Not feeling anything. My friend, who is much more sensitive in regards to ghosts could feel something and started to fall back a bit and tried to warn me. Bold and brash I say, Come on don't worry, "I" don't feel anything. Then I get to this big tree and wham.....I'm stopped in my tracks like I hit a brick wall. I can't breath and it feels like somethings got me by the throught. Suddenly the feild seems a whole lot darker. I pull away and turn saying, I think we should go back to see my friend already had the brains to do so. We ran our buts off to get out of that field. It may have been our panic but it seemed as though the darkness itself was chasing us. When we got to the car we were shaky and thought we'd go for a coffee and then come back for the night "show". Now when we left that field it felt like darkness was upon us but we went to town, took our time came back and sat more than an hour before it was dark enough to see the light show. The real crazy part is I want to go back in that field....full daylight and see whats out there. Crazy Huh!! LOL

Response:Ok so I'll tell you one more. This one's not too scarey!! I was a kid so maybe 15-18 years ago I think I might have been woken up by a ghost or spirit or some of you may think I was just dreaming!!! It was Easter morning and I was in that awake but not ready to open my eyes state!! I just felt so heavy and sleepy still I didn't want to get up. And you know how when you have your eyes closed but your still aware of what's going on around you. Now I was so sure someone came into my room. I heard/felt someone come in my door and stand beside my bed. I was sure it was my older sister coming to wake me so we could collect our chocolate bounty!!! I thought to myself, just a few more minutes. Then my "sister" pushed down on the back of my legs three times in a slow steady fashion. I think I growned at her. Then again three more pushes. It might be inportant to tell you I was face down and my pillow and blankets were tight around my face and head. After the second "push" I started to get angree and thought FINE I'll get up. Only to find I couldn't. A sence of urgency came over me and I felt the three pushes one more time!! Let GET UP I was able to push my face up and I took a big breath. It was like I was smothering in the pillow. I felt my "sister" quickly move toward the door. and I honestly expected to see the door closing when I looked up but it was already closed. I thought gee that was fast!!! Still believing it was my sister I got up and went into her room and said "very funny, I'm up what do you want?" Nothing. She was pretending to be asleep I was sure. Then I yelled "Hey, I'm up!!" Now my sister is not a morning person and the animal she turns into when you wake her cannot be faked. Not to mention the puffy eyes. Rage came over her face and she yelled at me!! I yelled back saying what's the big idea you come in my room and wake me up and now you wanna play this game!!!!" She gets this funny look in her eye and says she wasn't in my room!! Now I'm sure you could say it WAS her and she was playing a trick but I'm telling you she could not have moved that fast without making a lot of noice. She too was face down wrapped in blankets. She just couldn't have done it all that fast! Then I started to re-think what just happened. I realized I never heard a thing. I just felt someone in my room and someone push on my legs!! A follow up would be that later that same year, only weeks later. I came home from school feeling kind of sick. We had a spare bed in the basement and I was feeling so week I thought going down stairs was better than up. It was an old bed. The kind you really bounce on when you flop down. I drop down on the bed and about three bounces and the bed just kind of shimmies. Likd BOUNCE Bounce bounce. After the shimmy, it felt like someone pushed hard on both my shoulders and three more, BOUNCE Bounce bounces. Now have any of you felt like you were falling right before you go to sleep. That's what I thought it was. Then the second I closed my eyes it happened again, only harder. I opened my eyes and looked around. Now compleatly awake. I gingerly closed my eyes again, still feeling awake and I felt it again. Its funny but I didn't feel the slightest bit afraid. Just anoyed and I jumped up and out loud I said, "fine!!! I'll go up stairs" Again you could chalk that up to halucination or the fact that I was sleepy or sick. And I would agree but Looking back a lot of odd things happened in that house. If it wasn't for the fact that my older sisters told me of other things( after the fact) that happened to them or my mother. I would have just thought I was crazy and left it at that. One of my sisters said a lot of it started happening after my mother's brother died. And the belief was....it was him!! We moved last summer and really nothing much has happened here. I did have a very odd dream OF a ghost when we first moved in, but so far nothing has manifested!!

Response:My first experience with a spirit was when I was about 5. We lived in this house that was not very old, but it was right next door to this antebellum Presbyterian church. There were spooks in the church next door that carried candles as it got dark, but they were harmless. The three spooks that inhabited the house we were in was what was scary. My bedroom was the first in the hall and the three spooks like that room for some reason. They were not mean spirits, but they were mischevious. I could feel them every time they came in the room, but my sister could only feel them if she was concentrating on something like homework. One in particular grew attached to me. Although I never saw the spirit, she was a grandmotherly type. It was obvious that she had been some sort of care giver or just a very caring person in her life. When I was sick, she followed me, when I laid down to sleep at night, she sat by my bed and watched me. There was something about my sister she didn't like, though. She would hide things from her and always put them in the closet. Sisters favorite ear ring might just disappear and reappear in her coat pocket two days later and things like that. The spirit definately had a thing for the closet. She really did scare me when I was small, but when I went back to that house 10 years after moving out, all three spirits were still there and "grandmother" immediately made her presence known to me. She gave me a warm fuzzy type feeling in my belly. I would definately like to have an experience like this again.
