Spell Mechanics

What are Tools used for?

Many people ask what are the specific tools that one would use to cast a spell. There are actually two answers to that question.

The first answer being: None. Tools only allow you to focus your energy a little sharper. For beginners that's a BIG bonus, because your concentration skills might not be up to par. Technically, the only two things you need to do a spell in the first place are You and your mind. You know the saying "a mind is a terrible thing to waste"? Well it's true. It's terrible to waste and is terribly powerful.

The second answer is that you can use lots of things. You have stuff to hold energy, stuff to direct energy and stuff to gather energy. Tools to hold energy consist of amulets, crystals and gems. Tools to direct energy mostly consists of wands and athames. And finally, tools to gather energy are things like chants and dances. While those last items aren't technically 'TOOLS', they do help you focus so I'm adding them in.

As I said before, all these lovely tools are only there to 'assist' you. They will eventually become a 'crutch' to your spell casting abilities and you should eventually give them up or you'll find that you won't be able to do any magick without the use of a wand or an athame. Stuff like cauldrons are ok, because if you have to 'mix' something you can't really do it without a holder.
