I cannot express how shocking it is to learn of Bali's death. He was
so full of life. Although I haven't met him since I left METU in 1971,
his voice and laughter still rings loudly in my ears. May the Almighty
have mercy on him, and forgive him his mistakes, and grant him a
place in the jannat.

Fareed,

Thank you very much for informing me.Bali and me has spent some quality time
together in Metu.Me,Jhangir Khan and Bali were the closest and we all left Metu
about the same time. The worst part was I lost all contact with him allthese year
and the only news of him after all these years was the sadest. May god bless
his soul. He will be missed. He was Yarun ka Yar.

I shall inform Jhangir Khan as I didn't see his name in the list below.
I thank you again Fareed.

Best of regards.

Zaheer.

Dear Arkadasler,

It was really shocking to hear about "Bali's" demise.
Although his stay at METU was brief, he had left a lasting impact on the
Pakistani community at METU at that time. He was just one year junior to my
batch of 1968 but he so mingled with us that it felt that he was from our batch.

Like Aslam, Kazi & Zaheer Warriach have pointed out, one cannot forget his
happy go lucky, carefree attitude, continuous laughter & a cigarette in his
mouth !! In fact, he was one of the persons I was looking forward to meet during
my upcoming visit to Karachi on 2nd April'99. At that time, I was hoping to
convince him to come to the Y2K reunion. Alas !! it was not meant to be !!
May his soul rest in peace !! Ameen !!

Those of you who did not know him personally can go to the "Photo Album" on
the site & look under Kazi Zulkader's collection & you will be able to see his
smiling face in a number of photographs.

Let's all say a small prayer for him when we read this message.

In grief !!

May Allah(SWT) may give him peace and a place in Jannah. Ameen.

Fareed/Zulkadar
I have not been able to place exactly when did he join METU and which
Department was he in? Can you write a brief note about him for the benefit of
some ignorants like me. Thanks.

Selamlar,

Unfortunately it is more sad news than good news that emanates from that
dear city of ours. I wrote to Fareed Rabbani that the list with a black
background on the database is getting longer.

Every story has to end but did it have to be a bullet or a knife? Would
the brutalisation of that country which was formed in the name of Islam
and claims to be the first Islamic Republic in the world would ever
stop?

I have very vague memories of him from Ankara. Is he not the same
gentleman who has a photo and is listed as Muhammad Iqbal not Iqbal Khan
on the database.

Lets hope that he has found more peace where ever he is.

I am very sad to learn about Iqbal's death. I remember him with great affection.
I left ankara in April 1970 that was the last time we met. >From time to time I

Iqbal (Bali) may God bless him was a unique type in many ways. I had not
spoken to him since he was in USA. Some of his peers (our group) has spent a
lot of good time together. Can you please forward my message to everyone.

Regards,

Please convey my heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family.
I know this is a cliche, but at times like this, who can muster up the appropriate words.
Sufficient that the sorrow of the passing away of another soul is akin to another thread
being pulled out of one's own fabric.

In sorrow.

Inaa LiLah ve Inaa Alleh Rajaoon.

I had the honor of sharing accomodations with him for some time. Like
everybody else has mentioned he was a happy go lucky person who
otherwise didnt give a damn. What was really special in my relation with
him was when I first arrived in Miami in 1973 to join Uof M he was there
to recieve me at the Greyhound terminal and help me settle down. I
initially stayed at his apartment with unknown number of other want to
bes. He was very generous, caring and sincere. We stayed in touch for
a long time but he went on with his own ways and we eventually lost track.
God bless his soul and have mercy on him. Ameen.

Sikander Memon.
