Ian ended up in Shady Sands after he was injured by Raiders and the kind people of the town offered to heal him. Now he is completely healed and wants to go adventuring again. To get him to join talk to him. Ask him to join. He'll ask for 100 caps. You can either pay him (you can get the money back anyway) or offer to let him join just for the thrill. This will work if you have a high speech. |

Tycho is a Desert Ranger from Nevada. He was travelling west and stopped in Junktown. To get him to join talk to him after the raider gets shot. He'll ask you if you'll join him in a drink. Ask about his travels then introduce yourself. The conversation window will close. Talk to him again and ask if he wants to help you clean up to town. Tycho prefers using shotguns. He'll choose a combat shotgun over a sniper rifle. To get him to use a rifle give it to him along with ammo but take away the shotgun. |

Dogmeat was the companion of some stranger who walked into town. After the man was killed by Gizmo's cronies, his dog was left behind without a master. He'll keep waiting for his master to come back or for a new master to come along. Following this thought, either wear a leather jacket to look like his master, or give him some iguana-on-a-stick. After Dogmeat joins, you can later switch armours. In combat, Dogmeat is, by far, the most useful companion. He often knocks down enemies making them prone to gunfire. Good dog. |

Tandi is the daughter of Shady Sands' leader, Aradesh. Shady Sands is constantly harrassed by Desert Raiders. On one of their attacks, Tandi is captured. This happens after you destroy the Radscorpion nest, you go to Hub and come back. To save Tandi go southeast of Shady Sands to the Raiders' camp. Negotiate with the Khan for Tandi's release. You can convince him through words, challenge him to a fist-fight, or just shoot everyone and pick the lock on Tandi's cell. Tandi will stay with you as long as you don't go back to Shady Sands. If you do go back, she'll leave. |

Katja was born in Adytum but became bored of it as she grew up. She hangs around the Boneyard Library looking for something to do. To get her to join talk to her. Ask her questions about the area and such, then say that you will be leaving soon. She'll ask if she can join because she's bored and wants to go adventuring. Her favourite weapons are throwing knife. She'll use those before any other weapon. She could be carrying the gas-powered, monkey-designed, shotgun of immense pain and destruction, yet she'll use her throwing knives first. Therefore take them away from her and give her an SMG. She'll be more effective with it. |
