Our Oboe and English Horn reeds are made over a period of several days, to provide for greater stabilty. Our reeds are made with hand gouged Var, Ghyss, or Pisoni cane, tied onto 47 mm tubes: Loree silver for the "pro" reeds, and Pisoni brass for our student line. The diameter varies from 10.5 to 11 mm, and our cane is gouged on a Jim Mason gouger. All reeds are tested and played twice- once when they are first made, and then again when your order is filled - to ensure your satisfaction. Choose the type of reed best suited to your needs, by following the guidelines below:

"Pro" reeds:

Tied on a 47 mm silver Loree tube, these reeds are well suited to the serious student and advanced player. Private oboe teachers comment that they like these reeds as the reed is heavy enough that they can still "tinker" with it themselves, and the premium Loree tube can be used again! The softer reeds tend to be slightly more closed than the harder reeds- all are playable immediately. Soak for 1-2 minutes, and check to see if more soaking is needed.

Student reeds:

Tied on a 47mm brass Pisoni tube, these reeds are well suited to the school student, and are a boon to the busy band instructor. Choose the softer reeds for the Junior High or beginning player, and then move up over that first year. The harder reeds tend to be a bit more open.
