MEMORANDUM
| TO: | Sheila Willis Assistant Deputy Minister Regional Operations Division |
| FROM: | Pat Holllett Director |
| RE: | Request to recruit - unclassified |
Attached
please find a request to recruit for the unclassified (student)
position of Systems Support Officer for a period of eight weeks.
This temporary assignment is required to provide systems support
to Investigations and Enforcement Branch network comprising of
Unix and Novell based servers, core business applications and
LAN/WAN networking technologies.
Under the direction of Gary Martin, Supervisor of Technical
Support Services, and/or systems officers, the incumbent will
provide advice and expertise to the branch by:
| 40% | Providing systems support to IEB staff
at head office and in the regional/district offices. Troubleshooting/resolving computer related problems. |
| 20% | Maintaining in-house developed dBASE/Clipper applications. |
| 10% | Conducting application specific one-on-one training sessions. |
| 10% | Maintaining IEB software/hardware and communications systems to meet the needs of branch personnel. |
| 10% | Monitoring systems/network performance to ensure continuous service. |
| 10% | Maintaining up-to-date system documentation and systems backups. |
For the past six weeks, Mr. loan Moraru has fulfilled these duties in an efficient and competent manner under the Student - Immigrant Training Program. His expertise and experience have proven to be great assets to our branch over this brief period. Mr. Moraru has completed projects and resolved computer related problems independently which has assisted our Systems Officers with their enormous workload while allowing them to focus on more urgent matters. He has provided advice and customer service to branch staff in the absence of Systems Officers who are often required to travel to regional offices. Moreover, as a mature student and a computer professional, he has required minimal training or guidance which has contributed to his productivity.
Various systems related projects and initiatives will keep our Systems Officers extremely busy over the course of the summer. Therefore, I feel that the services of Mr. Moraru are warranted and would benefit our branch. As his contract under the Student - Immigrant Training Program expires July 7, I would like to extend his contract with IEB as an unclassified employee from July 10 to September 1, 1995. Allocation of salary funds are available for the eight weeks and will be taken from organization unit 3071, Technical Support Services.
Your approval is requested for this unclassified contract.
