SENECA COLLEGE - TRAINING FOR IMMIGRANT PROFESSIONALS
(T.I.P.s.)

Training for Immigrant Professionals (TIP's) is an individualized program designed to update the existing skills of
immigrant professionals.

Eligibility Requirements - Each client must meet all criteria

* Must be receiving Social assistance (Welfare) or Unemployment Insurance
* Landed Immigrants or Convention Refugees only
* Applicants are tested for grade 10-12 English proficiency level.
* Open to any
Professional Occupation - may be required to show relevant documentation
* Client
must be motivated, job ready, and have work experience in their profession from their country of origin
* Client must have moved to Canada within the last 3 years
* Preference will be given to those from the North York Area
* Please note that other eligibility requirements
not listed might apply.

Required Components:

Career Exploration
All clients in the TIPS Program begin with a four week Career Exploration Program. The goal of this program is to create realistic career
goals for the program participants and to develop skills in Problem Solving, Goal Setting, etc. Once clients complete career exploration,
program staff will work with each client to determine which additional program components are appropriate.

Additional Components:

  Training Brokerage
Clients who complete Career Exploration may be referred to an appropriate training course to update their skills. All training will
be customized to meet each client's particular needs. Training may be brokered through Seneca or other appropriate training
institutions.

Career Development Workshop
The Career Development Workshop is a two week job search techniques workshop which will equip the client with the skills needed
to secure a Training Place Host.

Training Pace Host
The *Training Place Host* is a 12 week on-the-job placement which allows the client to practice his/her skills and gain experience
in an actual work setting.

Start dates for Career Exploration are scheduled for:
  August 8, 1994
January 9, 1995

September 12, 1994
February 13, 1995

October 17, 1994
March 20, 1995

November 21, 1994
All training must be completed by June 30, 1995.
