The
Ontario Division Skills Competition is just around the corner! Although the snow
isn't “sticking” around just yet, now's the time to start thinking about
your team! Below, you will find the Skills Competition Rules, and information on
this year's events!
The
2003/04 Ontario Division Skills Competition
The
2003/04 Ontario Division Skills Competition will be hosted by Kawartha Zone with
assistance from Frontenac Zone. The Competition will be held Saturday February
28, 2004 at the Lakeridge Ski
Resort.
The
Competition will have three components to it:
1. On Snow
Skills Evaluation;
2. First
Aid Skills Evaluation; and
3. On Snow
/ First Aid Scenario.
The On
Snow / First Aid Scenario will challenge each team’s overall patrolling
skills. It will encompass the entire realm of patrolling, from sign in, to run
assignments, treatment of the injured person(s), evacuation of the injured
person(s) from the ski area to the base, and sign out.
Watch for
more details as we approach the Competition date.
Now is
the time to get involved!!! Talk to your Patrol Leader about forming a
Competition Team at your resort. If you are successful at your Area, (District),
and Zone, you may be one of the teams competing with the best from across
Ontario at the Competition at Lakeridge. The winner of the Ontario Division
Competition will represent the eight zones from Ontario Division at the National
First Aid Competition to be held later in the spring!

Now
is the time to start thinking about putting together a competition
team……. some FAQs:
Why
does the CSPS hold skills competitions?
A
great way to find out how good our training programs are and show us
where we need to improve;
Promotion
of camaraderie among patrollers and friendly rivalry between resorts,
zones and divisions;
Allows
the snow-sliding public to see patrollers in action doing what they do
best ……. first aid and on-snow evacuation;
Encourages
patrollers to practice their skills in first aid and on snow toboggan
evacuation;
An
effective way to profile, demonstrate and retain the very high standards
that CSPS has set in the areas of first aid and on-snow evacuation.
How
do I find out the rules for my Zone Skills (First Aid) Competition?
Zones
across the province may have different rules for their Skills (First Aid)
Competitions. Contact your Director of First Aid or Vice President of
Education to find out the rules that apply to your Zone Competition.
Can
any team compete in the Ontario Division Skills Competition?
Usually
the overall winner from the Zone Skills (First Aid) Competition may compete
in the Ontario Division Skills Competition. Additional teams from a Zone may
enter, at the discretion of the Division Vice President of Education - space
availability.
Can
any team compete in the National First Aid Competition?
The
team that wins the overall award at the Ontario Division Skills Competition
wins a place to compete in the National First Aid Competition. If space is
