Title: Uniforms of the Regiment "Riedesel"

Place: Duchy of Brunswick

Date:

Shown here are the uniforms of the Regiment Riedesel. The unit was formerly the second Batl. "Prinz Friedrich". The NCO is clearly recognized by carrying a stick. The stick was more a status symbol of the NCO's than anything else. The top illustration also shows the grenadier of the regimentt. In wartime the grenadier company would be taken out and would form with the other grenadier companies the Grenadier Batl. "Breymann". The drummers coat is always in yellow. The color of the House of Brunswick. Officers had the coat-backs folded down. On duty the officer wore the gorget or Ringkragen. The gorget was a left-over from the time suits of armour were worn. Zimmermann were mostly used as helper in manning the regimental artillery pieces. Normally a Regt had two three or six-pounder cannons attached to them.
