Position: Health Educator / Coordinator
SAFSS is a nonprofit organization that offers linguistically and culturally appropirate services to the community by empowering women, youth, seniors, and families to reach their fullest potential and abecome fully contributing members of the Canadian Society. The Project Coordinator will develop internal and external strategies needed to develop and implement the Seniors Health Volunteer Program.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop a workshop manual
to train senior health volunteers on the following conditions: diabetes,
hypertension,. osteoporosis, arthritis, atherosclerosis, hypercholestrolemia,
asthma, dementia, Parkinson's disease, cataract, glaucoma, and dental problems
2. Schedule and conduct
workshops for seniors on above conditions in culturally and linguistically
appropriate manner to train senior volunteers
3. Develop literature on
above conditions for wider distribution in the community and coordinate
its translation in Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Urdu, Punjabi, Italian and Persian
4. Coordinate the development
of audio and video cassettes in various languages for wider distribution
in the community
5. Organize conferences,
workshops and meetings at various places of worship
6. Identify, recruit and
organize training for senior health volunteers through network of community
agencies
7. Research and review
existing training models and resources and materials, and develop new material
as required
Qualifications:
* University degree
or diploma in medicine
* Experience of working
and dealing with above referred conditions
* Demonstrated adult
health education, research, presentation and publication
skills (Please enclose copies of publications if any)
* Excellent communication
and interpersonal skills
* Written and verbal
knowledge of above mentioned language/s
* Experience of working
with diverse communities, in particular South Asians
* Must be computer
literate with demonstrated desktop publishing experience
Salary Range: $40,000 to 50,000
