St. Michael's Hospital Mental Health Service in conjunction with the Mental Health Systems Research and Development Program in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto is offering a one year fellowship in community mental health. The fellowship is available to individuals in any mental health discipline. Candidates may be registered in a formal educational program, but this is not a requirement. The fellowship usually will be held for one year with an annual stipend of $40,000.
This fellowship will support candidates seeking to become clinical leaders, educators or scholars in relation to mental health issues affecting disadvantaged inner city populations. The fellow will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute to improving mental health and/or the delivery of mental health services in urban environments. Populations of interest may include individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, people with HIV/AIDS, homeless persons, women at risk, those with addictions and other inner city sub-groups.
Direct supervision of the fellow will be provided by academic staff of the St. Michael's Hospital Mental Health Service. During the fellowship period, each fellow will be expected to develop, carry out and evaluate a formal project and will receive assistance in this area from the Health Systems Research Unit at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
Interested applicants should
contact Dr. Donal Wasylenki, Psychiatrist-in-Chief, St. Michael's Hospital.
Applications should consist of a letter of intent, a curriculum vitae and
the names of two references and will be received until April 30, 2000.
The fellowship will commence July 1, 2000.
