Review:

This is certainly one of McCoy Tyner's more obscure releases, put out by the budget Laserlight label. The great pianist and his regular trio (with bassist Avery Sharpe and drummer Aaron Scott) is joined by percussionist Raphael Cruz and trumpeter Claudio Roditi for some Brazilian-flavored modern jazz. The music (three obscure Roditi originals, Tyner's "Traces" and Freddie Hubbard's "Up Jumped Spring," here listed as "Up, Jump, Spring") is not by itself all that memorable, but Roditi plays some mellow solos and Tyner is typically passionate. A good but not essential outing.
