Review:Baker's
singing has always been an acquired taste. Completely untrained, his high
voice sometimes sounded similar to
Chris Connor's low
tones, and his interpretations of innocent lyrics almost seem absurd when
one considers his lifestyle. Still, it has its charm and remains popular
among a select audience. This vocal-dominated session finds
Baker (who is
backed by trios led by pianist
Kenny Drew)
interpreting ten songs plus two that were only discovered in 1987. --
