Profile

Evena entered the Public Relations field 3 years ago after a successful career as an entrepreneur in the home and health care industry.

After living in Montreal and Sweden for several years, she returned to her homeland Barbados and started a home help and nursing agency that catered to Barbadians and tourists. Her responsibilities included business development, marketing and organizational management. In 1994 Community Care Services was voted the best health care agency in Barbados.

In preparation for her entry into her chosen field , she spent several months in Canada working as Proposal coordinator and assistant writer for the BTeam, a humans factor and human computer interaction, and web site usability firm. She successfully completed a Diploma in Corporate Communication at Centennial College. Her additional qualifications include, Certificates in General Management, Accounting and Computer Programming. She is now working towards completing a degree in Professional Communications at Athabasca University.

Thus far, her assignments in communications include: media relations coordinator, the Governor General's Award for Excellence in Teaching Canadian History, public affairs coordinator Monsanto, Canada, newsletter editor, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, Public Relations Chair, Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada, and freelancer, communications, the Ontario Hospital Association. She is presently employed with the Canadian Liver Foundation as a communications coordinator and assistant to the National Director of Communications.
